The last day of the last summer of your life

Rustie — “Cry Flames”

It doesn’t get any more epic than that synth line.

It’s as though Jim Davis was watching me this whole time.

Gotye- Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra)

Holy.Crap.Fucking.Amazing.

If I froze time right now and lived for 2,000 years, I still wouldn’t be able to catch up with all the great art that has been made over time. Glad this fell in my lap, though.

“Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”

ExamiNation is a short documentary film about the notorious South Korean college entrance exam, Sooneung (수능). While introducing all sorts of incredible facts and stats about the exam, it also follows a day in the life of a student preparing for this exam. The film will unveil how one exam can dictate a culture and lifestyle in a country. I started this project in the spring of 2010, shot it over the summer in Seoul, Korea, and edited over 9 months during my sophomore year. After 14 months of wrestling with it, I was able to present the piece at my premiere on May 21 at Northwestern University.

ExamiNation won the Highest Achievement Award at Northwestern University Film Festival (NUFF) in May 2011.Please e-mail me any questions and comments at:judydy.s@gmail.com

Former student of mine. Wonderful documentary.
